Job Summary:
Develops, organizes and coordinates available facility and community resources to provide the highest quality ongoing program of activities. The program will be designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident
Qualifications:
- Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist or is eligible for certification as a Therapeutic Recreational Specialist
- Skills, such as computer, networking, scheduling, and attention to detail.
- Must be able to read regulations and patient records and write clearly.
- Must be able to communicate in a courteous, friendly manner.
- Able to work independently and with supervision.
- Basic knowledge of audio-visual equipment.
- One year experience with a senior population.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Identifies the resident’s recreation treatment services, leisure services and opportunities for recreation participation. Provides recreation services to meet the identified needs and interests through individual and group programs to attain or maintain the highest practicable level of physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
- Interviews and assesses all residents prior to the initial care plan conference and includes assessment information in the medical record.
- Develops and updates assessment plan as needed and according to state regulations.
- Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary care plan team and integrates recreation services as part of the total resident plan of care.
- Maintains departmental documentation that reflects services provided and resident progress toward goals.
- Designs a recreation program based on needs, interests and capabilities of each resident.
- Develops a monthly recreation calendar of programs that reflect the assessed needs/interests of the health center population.
- Develops individual recreation program schedules that reflect the assessed needs/interests of residents unable to attend group programs. Evaluates the overall effectiveness of the resident recreation program and modifies the programs to meet resident needs/interests.
- Communicates Program goals and functions to residents, staff, families, and volunteers.
- Provides orientation and continuing in-service to all Healthcare staff regarding recreation and the functions of the recreation services department.
- Participates in continued education and training to maintain professional certification/qualifications.
- Assists the residents’ council in the organization and continued development of a resident’s council.
- Provides input in activities department budget.
- Strictly adheres to HIPAA rules and regulations as presented in orientation training.
- Assists with other departments as appropriate.
- Participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities as assigned.
- Demonstrates the spirit and mission of the organization as presented by the Mission Director in campus orientation.
- Consistently demonstrates hospitality behavior and the core values of quality, respect, service and integrity.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of one year of experience working in a Healthcare environment, including some activities experience and awareness of the needs of geriatric residents.
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree with specific coursework in Recreational Therapy
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or is eligible for certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
